Obtained this at the local grocery store for 50 cents yesterday:





The book is from 1948 and the physical book itself also seems to be printed that year. I don't see anything on the author Josef Kamp but I do see some search results for the book here and there, and depending on when the author passed away (assuming he did) this book might even be in the public domain in the death +50 countries (Canada, Korea, Japan, etc.). I'm 40 pages through the book after a day and it's quite an easy read. It's definitely a children's book but the background has enough to keep an adult entertained as well. A quote from a talking penny:

"Na, gut denn", begann er, "wir haben ja Muße und Gelegenheit dazu. Die Hausleute werden uns vorerst nicht stören. -- Ich bin also im Jahre 1900 geboren. Da wurde ich in Berlin in der Münze geprägt. Bedenke nur mal, wie lange das her ist! Heute ist der Meister Rosenstengel ein grauhaariger Mann. Damals, im Jahre 1900, mußte er noch ein richtiger Sausewind sein...ich habe schon afrikanische Erdteile durchwandert. Das war damals, als ich mit einem Kaufmann nach Togo gereist bin. Dann brachte mich ein deutscher Kolonist nach Kamerun, bis ich mit einem Heimfahrer ins Vaterland zurückkam. Ein Jahr lag ich achtlos in Gossen und Rinnsteinen, wurde mit Füßen getreten, mit verächtlichen Blicken gestraft..."
