And we have flyby - Comet Hartley 2

The Deep Impact, now known as the EPOXI mission, has just flown by the comet Hartley 2 and we have some raw images here to look at. Closest approach was 700 km and this image seems to be the most detailed:


For a video on why this flyby was so interesting (it's the fifth flyby at such a short distance), see here. The short answer is that each comet that has been flown by until now has been so different that we still have a hard time making generalizations about them at all.
