Video: virtual tour of Schola (Ning's online Latin community)

Tuesday, August 03, 2010

Google Alerts informed me of this video this morning:

It's an explanation over 7 minutes in length of how to use Schola, since the entire site is in Latin and they assumedly want to help new users use the site more easily. Most interesting parts from the video: 1) The collection of a few thousand images near the back with Latin vocabulary which serves as a kind of dictionary tool, enabling Latin students to more easily learn new words; 2) the fact that through donations the site has already paid the fee for 2010 (around $200) and is over halfway to paying for 2011 as well. A base of users that are willing to fork over their hard-earned money is a must for any language to survive and/or grow.
