Canada may build two lunar rover prototypes

Saturday, July 10, 2010

This is one of the first exciting pieces of news to come out of Canadian space probably since MOST (Canada's tiny space telescope), the prospect of constructing a Canadian lunar rover. Though I constantly berate Canada for having such a tiny space budget when the CSA's budget could easily be three times what it is now, it's interesting to note that even on such a small budget a lunar rover is something that is doable; once again constructing something for the Moon is quite easy, while a destination such as Mars is not. So this is another example of reason #3 from this post: how when the destination is the Moon just about any country with a functioning space agency is capable of helping out, but not so once the destination becomes more difficult and costly.
