Huge opposition to proposal to cut Latin program saves language from being cut

Tuesday, April 06, 2010

Good news: a high school in St. Louis with a Latin teacher retiring in a year had made a decision to cut the Latin program along with him, but huge opposition to the idea caused the school to rethink the plan and now they are looking for a new teacher beginning 2011.

Since this is an article on Latin you can be sure there's a reference to SAT scores, and this one is no exception. Whether overemphasized or not (higher SAT scores might just be due to a tendency for better students to be interested in subjects like Latin), I'm not complaining as the more selling points it has the better.

The Latin club at the high school has a total of approximately 100 members.
