NASA still not doing anything to capitalize on the success of Avatar

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

Spaceref had an op-ed back in November (I mentioned it in a post here) that NASA was missing a big opportunity by not getting involved in any cross-promotion with the upcoming movie Avatar, and today had another op-ed by the same person on how NASA continues to ignore the movie. This isn't just an example of NASA being too serious to get involved in cross-promotion either, as they spent a lot of time doing cross promotion with Toy Story (Buzz Lightyear) of all movies.

The New York Times has an article today by a biologist on the biology of the moon Pandora, and how exciting it is as a biologist to watch the movie. Apparently the creatures on the moon are of the type that biologists (or at least the biologist that wrote the article) sometimes imagine could exist if certain conditions in an environment were changed - less gravity, more/less oxygen, higher/lower atmospheric pressure, you name it.

In other news, movie theatres in China have been ordered to stop running the movie in 2D from January 23 onwards.
