How Canadian children learned French in the 1980s

Or more precisely, children in Ontario. This is a program called Téléfrançais that was made in the mid-1980s and used to learn French by children there. It's actually quite good even now for those learning basic French.



Being from Calgary though, we never used this during our classes in elementary school (starting from grade 4); instead we had that clown named Sol. The clown had apparently been played by Marc Favreau since broadcasts were in black and white:



The episodes we saw were made specifically for those learning French so they were nothing like the video above besides the character being Sol. It turns out that studies have shown that children actually fear clowns in general, and we probably would have been better off with Téléfrançais in our classrooms as well.
