What's the exact value of a supporter on the internet?

Tuesday, June 09, 2009

This is something I've wondered about for quite some time and have never been able to find any info on. What's the value in politics of a single fairly fanatical supporter? Let's say you're Candidate A and you have a fan on the internet that spends at least an hour a day reading about your latest activity, going on sites like Digg and Reddit to submit and vote up content (and also vote down content promoting the other candidate), always gives your videos five stars on YouTube and favorites them, writes the odd post on forums etc., is there any data on the value of these supporters compared to those that send in donations? That is, how big a donation is a single fanatical supporter on the internet worth?

And while we're on the subject, here's a video from 1993 from CBC on the internet. All you need is a computer and a phone line to start using it.
