The US has the second-largest number of Spanish speakers in the world / EEUU ya es el segundo país del mundo con más personas que hablan español

That information in the title is nothing new, but there's an article here with quite a few numbers that might be. Here are a few parts that were worth translating into English:

Today Seattle, the major city farthest from the Mexican border in the United States, has a 10% Hispanic population. The wave of the Spanish language has been unstoppable in all the corners of the greatest world power.

Then a bit about there being 45 million speakers of Spanish, not counting illegal immigrants. Followed by the results of a census...
The conclusions are staggering. Not only is the US the second largest Spanish power in the world after Mexico with its 106 million speakers, but also in 2050 it could become the first if it reaches the (expected) 132 million people that will have the language of Cervantes as their mother tongue.
It's neither triumphalism nor megalomania: these are the cold and objective data that the office of the US census reflects in an official note on the last 14th of August. "These numbers are given in the most pessimistic manner", notes Carmen Caffarel, director of the Cervantes Institute.
Not to mention companies, which increasingly are calling for bilingual employees - who can earn $20,000 more a year if they speak both languages - or the Spanish-language media. Large magazines written in English include advertisements in the other languages, and radio stations have done so for a decade.
