Euronews to include Turkish starting January 2010 / La chaine d’information française Euronews va bientôt émettre en langue turque

I love Euronews, for one reason above all else: its articles are synchronized from language to language, meaning that if you are reading one article and want to read it in another language, you just have to click on the bar at the top to select the other language whereupon you will be taken to the exact same article in the language you've selected, so no having to start at the beginning of the site to find the same article (if it even exists in that language). That makes it invaluable for students studying one of the languages it presents news in.

Now it seems they will be expanding coverage to Turkish as well, beginning January 2010.

TRT deviendra actionnaire d’Euronews.
The French information channel Euronews will soon broadcast in a ninth language: after French, English, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and Arabic, Turkish will be the next to enter into the network of the international channel...President Philippe Cayla signed a protocol of agreement today (27 February) with the Turkish channel TRT. Starting in January 2010, TRT will broadcast the Turkish version of Euronews throughout its territory, while Euronews will do the same by satellite for the rest of the planet. TRT will become a shareholder of Euronews.

For Turkey, this signing, which was negotiated for years, is a political signal: the country has manifested its will to continue to move closer to Europe and notably to France, the seat of Euronews: broadcasting this program of information in its territory is also a proof of democratic openness.
