Man From Earth subtitled in Occidental: part 1

Tuesday, January 06, 2009

The Man from Earth is pretty much the perfect movie to translate into an IAL, because 1) it's a good movie with a ton of conversation and no slang, and 2) the producer approves of the movie being distributed for free, guaranteeing maximum exposure (i.e. you can put it up on your blog or anywhere else without fear of reprisal).

After I'm done there'll be a nice .svt file to give to anybody you want to demonstrate how the language looks. Actually there already is an .svt file, but at the moment it's all in French except for the first part I've translated. I've gone with the French file instead of one English subtitle file I found because the former uses larger blocks of time, so you'll have person A and person B's dialogue in one area for four seconds for example instead of person A for two seconds, then switching over to person B for the next two. The former method is easier to concentrate on.

The word I've made for the term (female) stripper is devestitora. Correct or no?

(to see the movie as-is, see here)
