That's the latest news from Folha Online. This basically means that Portugal is taking a step towards Brazilian Portuguese while Brazil takes a step towards Portugal Portuguese (in writing that is), making the language that much more useful. Over here in Korea there are a lot of Portuguese textbooks that simply say Brazilian because the assumption is that people will be learning the language to interact with Brazil and so there's no reason to even have Portugal in the picture. Outside of English, Koreans generally aren't interested in languages unless they're impossible to ignore sometimes like Japanese or Chinese, or cool and European like French and German. Portuguese sometimes gets in there thanks to trade with Brazil, which is why the textbooks are made that way. In terms of GDP size in millions of USD, Brazil has 1,313,590 while Portugal has 223,303.

I'm going to try my hand at a translation of the article into English and Occidental, imagining a future scenario where an international auxiliary language has been approved but English is still quite commonly seen alongside news articles in other languages.
