How accurate is the Ido in Nonni and Manni?

Monday, May 05, 2008

After going over the first chapter word by word I'm not sure I want to continue using it as a source to learn the language as there seem to be some typos and grammatical quirks that I'm not sure are accurate. I'll give a few examples:

  • Pro ke tu tante deziras, irez komprar fluteto lada.
Lada? I assume it means leda, an ugly or a plain flute. Neither the Dyer dictionary nor Wiktionary has a word called lada.
  • e me joyoz e sensucia renkontre iris al danjeri qui me guatis.
1) Guatar - to lie in wait for something. Since he's talking about some dangers they are obviously lying in wait for him and not the other way around, but without the -n here (men guatis) it looks like he's lying in wait for them.
2) This one might be just a misreading on my part, but how does one joyoz (happy) and sensucia (worry-free) renkontre (meetingly?) irar (go)? Shouldn't this be "e me joyoze e sensucie iris renkontrar la danjeri qui men guatis" (I joyfully and without worry went to meet the dangers that lay in wait for me)?

  • Pos ta aserto, me pro la kloko tarda mustis hastirar ad e en mea lito.
Pretty sure hastirar is supposed to be hastigar. As of two days ago a Google search for hastirar turned up nothing; now it turns up this blog. Hastigar turns up 49 results. Also, hastiras turns up nothing, hastigas 91 results.

Those aren't the biggest mistakes in the world when one is reading a story (and I know that my translation of Ecclesiastes is bound to be full of mistakes) but I'm looking for something that can be turned into an mp3 as is, without having to ask on the various groups for other opinions before I proceed. Because of that I'll be setting aside Nonni and Manni for the time being and choosing something else to use by tonight or tomorrow.

hastirar =? haste irar

"e me joyoze e sensucie iris renkontrar la danjeri qui men guatis"
yes!
