Industry and energy in Turkmenistan - from the Turkish Wikipedia. Part II

Here's part two of my translation for fun on industry and energy in Turkmenistan. Once again I'll do my best but it comes with a 0% guarantee. Part 1 is here.

Türkmenistan gerek elektrik üretimi, gerek diğer enerji kaynakları, özellikle de doğalgaz açısından zengin bir ülkedir. Ülke ekonomisinin temel taşını pamuk, doğalgaz ve petrol oluşturmaktadır.

Turkmenistan is a rich country in necessary electrical production, other necessary energy resources, and especially in natural gas. The cornerstone of the country's economy is formed from cotton, natural gas and petrol.

When the Russian Federation was first formed, the natural gas reserves found in the Soviet Union made up about 40% of the world's natural gas reserves. Of the total natural gas reserves in these countries, about 85% is in the Russian Federation. Of the Central Asian countries, Turkmenistan is the one with the largest natural gas reserves and yearly production capacity. The natural gas reserves in Turkmenistan make up 5% of the area's total reserves, and the established total natural gas reserves are around 2.86 to 4.4 trillion cubic metres. But after independence production and export opportunities have narrowed to one half. 84% of natural gas produced is exported.

Bağımsızlıktan bu yana gaz üretimi 100 milyar m3’lerden, 15 milyar m3’e gerileyen Türkmenistan, 1999 yılında 22,9 milyar m3 gaz üretmeyi başarmıştır.

Turkmenistan, which after independence regressed from 100 billion cubic metres to 15 billion cubic metres, succeeded in 1999 in producing 22.9 billion cubic metres of gas.

In order to export the natural gas a pipeline through Russia is used. Also, another 200 km pipeline opened in 1997 providing a connection with Iran with limited capacity exists. Nowadays there is continuing work going on regarding the question of developing a pipeline project to transport gas through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India. There is also work continuing to bring Turkmen gas to Turkey.

Looks like I'll be doing part 3 tomorrow.
