It's called the Global Language Online Support System, and it has some wonderful lessons and activities, though I've only looked at the Persian stuff.

I've never really learned Portuguese besides knowing some of the overall ways in which it differs from Spanish - yo es eu and la(s) is a(s) and los is os and that sort of thing. Oh, and the days of the week are numbers instead of names...combine that with the French I know and Interlingua and it's pretty easy to read, but I couldn't compose a sentence in Portuguese to save my life.

you've mentioned repeatedly that something like 85% of any given language falls within only about 2,000 of it's most common words, most of which are the same from language to language. (not sure if I remember those figures exactly right). Do you happen to have a link to a study done on this, or a list of those words, or anything further?
