A huge surprise this morning: instead of just experiencing the flyby of asteroid 2012 DA14, which is extraordinary enough, it turns out that a meteor has crashed into the Ural region in Russia, and looks to have been about 15 metres in diameter. About 700 people have been injured from broken glass.
In comparison, 2012 DA14 is 50 metres in diameter, I believe, and won't be hitting us.
Maybe this will be the day we realize that asteroid impact is a real threat.
