Der Gott, das Gott, die Gott

In case of boredom this Christmas, here's an article in German (and a French article about the same article) about whether Gott in German should be der, das or die. I think I agree with this comment the most:

Gott ist das, als was er gedacht wird..Insofern ist die Artikelwahl gleichgültig - sie sagt nichts über das bezeichnete Objekt aus, sondern nur über den Bezeichner (meinetwegen also "die Gott" oder "das gott", nur bleibe ich für mich bei "der" und lasse mir das ebensowenig nehmen wie ich anderen ihren Artikelgebrauch nehmen will).
