Taxi drivers in Brazil to learn more English and Spanish for the World Cup

Thursday, January 12, 2012

An article here in Portuguese (Google Translate to English here) shows, to nobody's surprise, that the top two languages that Brazilian taxi drivers want to and plan to learn are English and Spanish.

One program detailed in this article is a course that takes place over up to 36 months, whereby the taxi driver receives handouts and is to study whenever he/she has free time - in the cab, at home, etc. Answers are sent by SMS and tests are online, and the course takes 120 hours. There is a lot more in the article on what it's like to be a taxi driver than exactly how the course works.
