Spain by province: where the women are, where the men are

Tuesday, January 04, 2011

Another article in Spanish today shows a map of Spain's provinces in relation to the percentage of men compared with women (go directly to the image here). Spain overall has 2.45% more women than men, and looking at the country province by province the areas with the largest percentage of women are found in places with larger population and the northwest part of the country, while those with more men are more rural, and closer to the centre.

Given that it states that higher population = more women and lower population = more men, I've rearranged the data in accordance with this list of Spanish provinces by population, and given it a similar colour-coding. Though anything pink represents more women than men, also keep in mind that the lightest shade of pink (0 - 2% more women than men) still means a lower percentage than the national average.

Also note that the last two on the list (the least populated) are those two cities across the sea right next to Morocco.
