Latin Wikipedia finally on the cusp of 40,000 articles, plus fight over Latin diplomas in Leiden University (Netherlands)

Wednesday, June 09, 2010

On the 29th of May I wrote that the Latin Wikipedia should reach 40,000 articles about a week from then, and 10 days later they're only 16 articles away. You might see a snazzy logo on the top left there in a day or so.

And in other news, Leiden University in the Netherlands is planning to abolish Latin from its diplomas after 435 years, and intends to have English in its place. A petition against the change is here in Dutch, and thus far has 2,933 signatures.
