Location of meteorite that fell over Norway last week narrowed down

Thursday, March 11, 2010

Last week I had a post on a search for a meteorite that fell over Norway on the 2nd of March, but at the time the location where it fell was quite vague and the assumption was that it fell down in one of these parts of the country.

Luckily though at the time the meteor was coming down a man named Bernt Andreassen was doing some filming in Vignes (part of Lillehammer) as part of a project he has been working on with Østnorsk Film over the past 18 months, and was able to grab a picture of it as it came down. The camera used takes pictures every 7 seconds and he had already taken 16-17 pictures when suddenly the meteor came rushing down, and he was able to get a picture of it.

This observation is just one of many though, and so far around 150 have been sent in.
