Tsk, tsk...Norwegian politicians stop using Twitter now that the election is over

Monday, October 05, 2009

Elections were held in Norway on the 14th of September resulting in a second victory for Jens Stoltenberg again as Prime Minister and his allies.

But!

Big surprise - now that the election is over politicians aren't using Twitter as much as they used to. It's almost like Twitter to some of them was just a tool used to get elected.

From the article:

Of the total 19 cabinet ministers, there are 11 on Twitter. Only six of them have said anything there since 16 September, according to an overview by NTB.

The most active of the current cabinet ministers is Education Minister Bård Vegar Solhjell (SV, or Socialist Left), who has written 44 tweets since 16 September. In second place is his party colleague and Ministry of Government Administration and Reform Heide Grande Røys with 18 tweets.

Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Ap, or Labour Party) has tweetet 17 times since the election. The parliamentary leader for the same party, Helga Pedersen, has tweeted seven times. Finance Minister Kristin Halvorsen has used Twitter five times, while State Minister Jens Stoltenberg is the least active of the active users with three tweets.

Minister of Children and Equality Anniken Huitfeldt had deactivated her account when NTB checked it on Sunday morning.

I would say Bård Vegar Solhjell (minister of education) is the only one of the abovementioned politicians that is online. He has his own blog at www.bardvegar.no, and often discusses politics with his readers and lets us know what he is thinking and doing.

The other politicians pretty much just post online because they feel they have to do it to "reach out to the internet niche".
