Students in Spain studying physics, chemistry and mathematics have dropped by 30% since 1997

An article here shows a consistent trend in Spain away from hard sciences like physics, chemistry and mathematics. You can see that physics has been hit especially hard, with a loss of 50% over the past 20 years.

Most comments below seem to blame academic inflation, where everyone is expected to get into university and kind of see it as little more than a continuation of high school, so most just choose similar subjects (humanities) and spend four years doing that, hanging out with friends, etc.
