Russia not happy with Ahmadinejad's Holocaust denial

Sunday, September 20, 2009

Perhaps there will be a tad less marg bar Rusiye (death to/down with Russia) on the streets due to this? This is from La Presse in French but the news is naturally available in any language.

The remarks by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who declared once again that the Holocaust was a "myth", are "totally unacceptable", said the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs on Saturday.

"These types of declarations, wherever they come from, contradict the truth and are totally unacceptable", said the minister's spokesman, Andrei Nesterenko, in a communique.

"Attempts to deny history, especially in this 70th anniversary of the start of the Second World War, offend the memory of all the victims and all those that fought against fascism", he added.

Ahmadinejad reiterated his remarks that had already outraged the international community in a discourse Friday during an annual day of solidarity with the Palestinians.

And while he made his comments, regular Iranians took to the streets and showed that he doesn't speak for them. Good for them.
