Here's a link I've been meaning to share for a while, one a bit reminiscent of Ecclesiastes (IMO the best book in the Bible). It's an excerpt from De Brevitate Vitae (On the Shortness of Life) by Lucius Annaeus Seneca, and except for a few cultural discrepancies (having slaves for example) it could just as easily have been written today. This part (Chapter III) for example is no less poignant today than the day it was written:
