On the foundations of Latin

Wednesday, August 19, 2009

I just stumbled across a book here by the same name (The Foundations of Latin) from 1999 that many readers here will find interesting. It's a limited preview so you can't read the whole book for free online, but just like browsing a book for a while in a store you may find something interesting somewhere within the limited preview. This page for example on Hittite vs. Lithuanian (Hittite is an ancient language that was quite innovating whereas Lithuanian is a modern language that is quite conservative) is a good part.

In other Latin news, a Catholic school in Mason Ohio (population around 22,000) has added Latin to its curriculum. The school is for students from grades 1 to 8 and seems to be quite small.
