Washington to Chambersburg

Check it out, it's Washington to Chambersburg!

One hour 40 minutes by car.

So?

Well, that's the distance from Islamabad to Mingora/Mongora:

Mingora is where the Taliban and the army of Pakistan are now battling each other. The white border on the top left is where Afghanistan begins.

In terms of my home town, that's the distance from Calgary to Drumheller, the town where the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology is. Yikes. Elementary students go there on field trips all the time.

My personal opinion is that the Taliban has overextended itself and this will be seen as a huge tactical blunder. A few km over the Afghanistan/Pakistan border isn't such a big deal; getting this close to the capital of a country with nuclear weapons is, and now all of a sudden Pakistanis aren't so opposed to the idea of using US force to battle the Taliban within their country, as you can see from this interview with Fareed Zakaria on the Daily Show. Remove the internal dissent to a military operation and all of a sudden you have a freedom to act that you never had before.
