10 days left until the release of the independent fan film The Hunt for Gollum

Exciting times - The Hunt for Gollum, a 40-minute Lord of the Rings fan film made by fans and completely free, is out on May 3rd which is only ten days from now. The film is set in the period between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings (a 60-year period of time), and follows:

...the Heir of Isildur; the "greatest huntsman and traveller in Middle Earth" as he sets out to find the creature Gollum. The creature must be found to discover the truth about the Ring, and to protect the future Ringbearer.
Taking a look at the trailer below and the stills it seems to be as professional a work as any other film, just shorter. 40 minutes seems like a really good length of time for those that want to translate the movie into other languages too, as just about anybody who wants to put in the effort can translate 40 minutes worth of content, and the fact that the movie is free is even better. The formal language used in LOTR is actually remarkably easy to translate. Compare that to something like Star Wreck: in the Pirkinning, where the translator must do his/her best to try to convey the meaning and humour behind the Finnish slang. Not an easy task.

The film is getting a few mentions in the news as well, and you can read about it in English, auf Deutsch, and en français.

Edit: in fact, I see the trailer has already been translated into Turkish:

They have a forum as well and this thread here is where the discussion is taking place on translating it into other languages.

The Gollum fan film is getting a ton of coverage all over the net, and I'm not surprised as I've been writing about them on my daily fan film blog, fancinematoday.com for months. For what it's worth, if you want to find out more about fan films in general, I wrote the first book about the history and future of 'em, Homemade Hollywood, which just came out.
