Brazil to need one hundred thousand Spanish language teachers

The Brazilian ambassador in Spain, José Viegas Filho, said today that his country will need 100,000 Spanish teachers in the coming years as a consequence of the policy of bilingualism that the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has carried out. Viegas Filho...said to reporters that the introduction of Spanish as a second language "doesn't mean that all Brazilians will be bilingual" and criticized the countries next to Brazil that "have forgotten that they have a sister language, Portuguese."
At present, said the diplomat, "we are facing an international crisis which was not caused by us (Brazil) but which can still affect us", though he expressed confidence that his country would continue to grow and "will not be affected by a recession that seems to be very strong in the North Atlantic."
